Holloway Prison Public Consultation Stage 1 Report

You can now view the Stage 1 Public Consultation Report online and all other engagement materials we have used in the Documents Library tab. This is just the start of our consultation and there will be many more opportunities to get involved. This report details the initial feedback we have received, collates the responses given to us at the exhibition using the feedback tools, and shows how we have been engaging with the local community.

This Stage 1 Report is the first of many that will help inform our final Statement of Community Involvement when a planning application is submitted.

We have been delighted to meet the local community face-to-face and are enthused by the positive level of engagement received across these events and are looking forward to the next stage of the consultation, commencing once the summer break has finished. As always, please check back here for the latest news and project updates.

Our Commitments

This is an opportunity to deliver a major housing-led scheme and great place to live that will have a significant benefit both locally and for London.

These are our commitments to the local community for the future development of Holloway Prison. Each commitment has been influenced by the Holloway Prison Site Supplementary Planning Document agreed by Islington Council in 2018. Peabody looks forward to working with the community and is fully committed to an inclusive and wide-reaching community engagement programme.

  • 60% affordable housing provision.
Delivering a range of genuinely affordable homes including social rent levels with no poor doors.

  • Provision of a Women’s Building.
To be designed through resident-led engagement.

  • Green and open space.
To provide new access routes and play spaces open to the public.

  • Temporary homeless shelter.
Peabody will be working with local homeless charities to provide a suitable meanwhile use in the former Visitor’s Centre.

  • Full consultation process.
Starting from March 2019. Please check back here for updates on our full programme of inclusive and wide-reaching engagement as the design work progresses throughout 2019 and early 2020.

The Team

Peabody

Peabody has been creating opportunities for Londoners since 1862, when it was established by the American banker and philanthropist, George Peabody. In July 2017, Peabody and Family Mosaic merged to create a new Peabody, more than doubling its capacity to provide new homes and services in London and the South-East. The organisation owns and manages more than 56,000 homes, providing affordable housing for around 111,000 people. As well as bricks and mortar, Peabody provides a wide range of community programmes in their neighbourhoods, including help with employment and training, health and wellbeing projects, family support programmes and a dedicated care and support service. The Peabody Community Foundation will invest more than £90 million supporting communities over the next 10 years. This year, it invested more than £7.3 million in programmes, helping 1,123 people into work and delivering over 58,000 hours of free-to-access community activities. Peabody also runs a comprehensive programme of socio-economic investment in supporting residents into enterprise, employment, education and skills.

London Square

Founded in 2010, London Square takes its name from the ethos of London’s famous squares, the legacy and sense of community they have created over the centuries. Respectful of the past and inspired by the future, London Square is committed to delivering exceptional homes in London and its surrounding areas that reflect and respect the aspirations of its customers, stimulate thriving communities and set a new benchmark for modern living in the capital.

Allford Hall Monaghan Morris

Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) makes buildings that are satisfying and enjoyable to use, beautiful to look at and easy to understand. The Islington-based Stirling Prize-winning architects design very different buildings for very different people to use in very different ways. AHMM believe in making places as well as buildings, that work over time and have lasting qualities intrinsic to their architecture.
